Security warnings continue to raise alarm for Indian users and the latest alert has been issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) related to Google Chrome browser that millions use on the desktop, Mac and Linux systems.
The CERT-In bulletin has been rated as highly severe which is sure to alarm people using Chrome on their machines. The alert says, multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome which could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code and retrieve information from users by coercing them to visit specially-targeted websites.
“Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome for desktop which could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code and information disclosure on the targeted system,” the note from CERT-In says. The agency also said that cyber attackers could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted website.
Chrome has been facing multiple security risks in recent times, in fact, CERT-In had another warning for Indian users back in September this year. The note also points out that these vulnerabilities exist in Chrome for desktop due to use after free in media stream, side panel search, media capture and inappropriate implementation in autofill and web browser UI.
Google Chrome Security Risk Versions Affected
The CERT-In alert mentions these Google Chrome versions are affected by the security risks:
– Google Chrome versions prior to 120.0.6099.62 for Linux and Mac
– Google Chrome versions prior to 120.0.6099.62/.63 for Windows
The good news is that Google is already aware of these vulnerabilities and worked out a fix for all of them via the latest Chrome 120.0.6099.62 and .62/.63 versions for Linux, Mac and Windows, respectively which is now available for users in the stable channel.
The update was issued on December 5 and now available to all Windows, Mac and Linux users who rely on Chrome for their browsing activities. You can head over to settings in Google Chrome – About – Update the Chrome version right away on your PC or Mac.
