DGCA Lifts Ban on Using Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in Flights
The new batch of Samsung Galaxy Note 7, purchased by September 15, is safe to use.

The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) today lifted the ban on using the latest Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in flights. It has issued an advisory to the travelling public and airline companies to allow the usage of Note 7 smartphones, purchased after September 15.

After several incidents of Galaxy Note 7 battery explosions were reported globally, DGCA had stepped in to restrict the usage of the smartphone in flights. It had also summoned Samsung executives after an older Galaxy Note 2 device caught fire inside a Chennai-bound IndiGo aircraft last week.

The ban was ordered even before the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 started to sell in India.

“Customers can identify the new Galaxy Note7 with the ‘green battery icon’. Devices displaying this visual icon are safe to charge and use during the flight. The ‘green battery icon’ will apply to all Galaxy Note 7 units that will be sold to customers in India when it is launched,” the company said in a official statement.
