Users were however able to access Facebook through its mobile apps, during the time when the website was inaccessible.
The Facebook website was inaccessible on Thursday evening for several minutes. Outages were experienced by users in in North America, Europe, Australia and India.
A message displayed on facebook.com said "Sorry, something went wrong. We're working on it and we'll get it fixed as soon as we can."
Facebook users however reported that they were able to access Facebook through its mobile apps, during the period when the website was inaccessible.
According to Facebook's Platform Status dashboard, the website experienced a major downtime. Facebook says the issue has been resolved.
The issue was marked as "Facebook-wide" and the Facebook Graph API was temporarily unavailable.
