Millions of Android phone users in India have got a stern security warning from the country’s government this week. The Computer Emergency Response Team or CERT-In has notified the alert on September 11 with a high severity rating which is hard to ignore and should be of concern to all the users.
Android Security Risk: Who Is Affected
The new vulnerabilities affect Android versions 12, 12L, 13, and 14 as well. The number of phones running these versions in India should easily be over 30 million, which means the high severity ranked alert should worry many Android users across the country.
What Is The Security Risk For Android Users
CERT-In highlights that multiple vulnerabilities exist due to flaws in the framework, Google Play system updates, ARM components, Imagination Technologies components, UniSoc components, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm close-sourced components.
The team emphasises that these exploits have the potential to allow attackers to gain sensitive information and execute arbitrary code on your phone.
The biggest concern with alerts like these is that many phone manufacturers like Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus and even Samsung use chipsets from the companies, which puts them at direct risk and an urgent security patch is needed to fix these issues.
You can head over to your phone’s Settings and check for the latest update from: System – Software update and install the latest version if it is available right away.
CERT-In has also issued a security warning for Microsoft Windows, Office, Azure and Dynamics users in the country this week who should be careful while installing software from unknown sources to avoid possible breach of their systems.
