Xiaomi says MIUI 7 BETA will be available on Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Mi 3/4/4i, Redmi Note 3G/4G from August 24.

New Delhi: Xiaomi launched the latest iteration of its MIUI operating system, MIUI 7, at an event today in New Delhi. The latest upgrade to its popular Android-based operating system includes several new features designed for India. As a part of the UI, Xiaomi has integrated games and animations particularly from the domain of cricket and Bollywood.

Xiaomi says MIUI 7 BETA will be available on Redmi 1S, Redmi 2, Mi 3/4/4i, Redmi Note 3G/4G from August 24.

Among improvements in MIUI 7, Gallery now supports face recognition. The new facial recognition in Gallery groups photos by people. "Check your Gallery and hit the People tab. MIUI 7 has sorted out all the cute faces of your baby and the lovely photos of your pets. Use your baby's photo as your homescreen. See how cute he/she is every time you unlock your Mi phone," says Xiaomi.

Devices running MIUI 7 can see up to 30 per cent faster response time when launching system apps, and 10 per cent better battery life in daily usage, says Xiaomi.

The company says, the 750-strong R&D team has optimises MIUI 7 and has filled it with colourful themes so no two phones are alike.

The move assumes significance as the new UI launches will complete the circle for the Chinese handset-maker to penetrate the budget and mid-range smartphone market in India on which it had exponentially grown its user base.

Xiaomi has incorporated themes more closely into MIUI 7, with a set of four new system UIs now available when you power up your phone. Users can choose from Rose, Pink blush, Ocean breeze & High Life.

MIUI7 is going big with XXL Text. All system apps have been reformatted for exceptional readability. It is said to be a complete rework of the UI to make sure larger text is formatted to fit the screen perfectly.

MIUI 7 makes use of face recognition technology to automatically identify babies and group their photos together, so parents can go back in time to relive every stage of their children’s lives captured in images. These photos can even be set as a slideshow on the lockscreen.

MIUI 7 also has a child mode.

Showtime lets MIUI account users set an animated video that will play on their friends' Mi phones when calling them.

Xiaomi has partnered with Opera Max to compress browser and in-app media. Powered by Opera Max compression technology, MIUI Data Saver will soon be available worldwide in the coming months, offering data savings across all apps. By sending data such as images and videos to Opera's cloud and compressing it before returning it to users' phones, this feature can provide up to 50 per cent data savings on mobile data connections, claims Xiaomi.

Xiaomi launched MIUI on August 16, 2010 with only 100 users. To date, it has crossed 150 million users worldwide in 156 countries and regions. Incorporating feedback from fans over the past five years, Xiaomi says it has rolled out 250 weekly updates so far and counting.
