Poco F2 India Launch Hint? Brand's OnePlus 9 Tweet Hijack Leaves Fans Wondering
OnePlus is stepping up its promotion of the upcoming OnePlus 9 series, but Xiaomi sub-brand Poco wants to hijack the party with a cryptic question about ‘round 2’.

Back when the Poco F1 was launched, it somewhat pounced on the ‘flagship killer’ title that OnePlus had built and crafted for itself. As OnePlus moved to offer more premium devices that are still well priced, Poco went on the overkill with the Poco F1 – bearing flagship specifications but at near-budget pricing. However, since then, Poco has diversified its portfolio into the budget-segment C series, the mid-budget M series and the mid-range X series. Meanwhile, the Poco F2 has remained as elusive as Cyberpunk 2077 did for all those years before its launch. Now, with the launch of the OnePlus 9 coming up, Poco appears to have a thing or two to say.

It’s not saying anything specific, mind you. Earlier today, the OnePlus PR machinery posted a tweet with images of the original OnePlus One, the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 5, asking people to “do the math”. Also doing the math among its audience, it seems, was Poco – the Xiaomi sub-brand that has been claiming in recent times that it is as good as a standalone brand, and not a mere sub-brand. Hijacking the OnePlus 9 hype train, Poco responded with a cryptic question, “round two?”

This, as it so appears, has been enough to get followers of the Poco brand excited about what might be in store. The original Poco F1, with which the brand had introduced itself, has faded into oblivion, and users have been clamouring for the enigmatic Poco F2 ever since. With OnePlus being the original ‘flagship killer’ brand, Poco somewhat claimed to have crashed OnePlus’ party with a flagship killer of their own. According to users on Twitter, a question of going for round two might imply that Poco may be prepared to launch a OnePlus 9 rival in the near future, hence yet again sparking off rumours about a potential Poco F2 launch.

Before you get too excited, it’s important to remember that even if Poco does launch a smartphone rivalling the OnePlus 9, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the much rumoured and speculated Poco F2. The latter’s branding was already used to launch the Poco F2 Pro in Europe, as a rebranded Xiaomi Redmi K30 Pro. As a result, it would be unusual if Poco sticks to the F2 name for a future flagship-grade smartphone. Nevertheless, that’s as much information as we have on this topic right now.

Given that Poco has hinted at a “round two” with OnePlus, it will be interesting to keep an eye out for a flagship grade smartphone from the brand in the coming weeks or months. The OnePlus 9 is almost here, and is set to be unveiled on March 23. It is slated to feature the Snapdragon 888 SoC and a Hasselblad co-branded rear camera setup that will seemingly record 4K videos and 120fps. With such features at hand, will OnePlus still manage to keep its price tag appealing? We’ll find out soon enough.
