New Delhi: As the day to fool people around and play practical jokes draws to a close, we bring to you the top and coolest pranks played by the tech giants on April Fools' Day. While some of the pranks were well, just pranks, others did manage to catch us offguard. Here's a list by Lifehacker:
Google Maps turns to Pac-Man Maps
Google turned its mapping service to a Pac-Man chomping zone and yes, we loved playing that one! Those who weren't able to play the game, Google made sure that they do so by prompting them to search for alternative place.
Chrome Selfie
All those who've been using too much of incognito modes, beware! This cool prank by Google asks you to share a reaction ChromeSelfie for the websites you visit on your Chrome browser for mobile. Our reaction? "The Horror, The Horror".
Munchie Matchmaker
Takeaway delivery site EatNow said that it was launching Munchie Matchmaker, an app which pairs up single people eating alone. The app takes into account age, location and sexual preference. Don't believe us? Check it out yourself.
Australia is moving North: Google
Google's blog claimed that the equator is slipping, meaning that by 2055, Australia will be in the Northern Hemisphere. Does Pac-Man Map know this?
Google Panda
The very mention of Panda makes it believable. Google Panda- fitted with emotional and conversational intelligence. Does that even makes sense? Oh! yes, they are real. Pandas are real. This product is real. We wish it was real. (sighs)
Smartbox by Inbox by Gmail
A gesture-controlled physical mailbox by Google? Dear, Google you seem to be churning out only pranks this Fools' Day.
Honda's HRV-selfie edition car
Selfie-lovers, you are going to enjoy this one.
Samsung Blade Edge
After dual-edge Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung brings out a special edition for the chefs. Calling and chopping vegetables simultaneously sounds preposterous.
Microsoft Surface Watch
Well, we would like to see this gag coming true.
Vodafone's emoji phone
We all love emojis. But, an Emoji phone? One that looks more like a joystick or a boomerang, complete with a full Emoji keyboard. Tacky!
WhatsApp to soon roll out video calling with Meerkat-like live streaming abilities
We at IBNLive are also a bunch of pranksters. Our tech April Fools' story was that of WhatsApp adding some more much desirable features to the app, with the source duly credited as DFA (that is the reverse of AFD - April Fool's Day) and also the version of the app to include the video calling feature was mentioned as 4.01.15, i.e., April 1, 2015.
And as expected, a few websites actually fell for our prank, reproducing or quoting us in all seriousness.
