WhatsApp users are now getting Status Update on the web version. Status is WhatsApp’s version of Stories for its users, who can share updates via photos and videos. Once they share Status updates, their display picture on the messaging app gets a green ring and when you tap on it, you can see the shared update.
WhatsApp seems to be testing the web version of the feature with the beta users, as reported by WABetainfo this week. WhatsApp web is used by billions on their desktops as it allows them to multi-task, be it at work or just caught up with some busy stuff.
So, if you have got the WhatsApp web beta version 2.2353.59 running on your desktop, chances are you will be able to try out the new Status update feature on the platform. You can find Status at the top-left of the WhatsApp web interface, right between communities and channels tab.
As you can see in the clip below, WhatsApp Status on the web works multiple ways. You can either click on the + icon on the Status tab, or tap on the same icon right next to your profile picture on the messaging app.
WhatsApp users can have Status updates as photos or videos and text as well. Many have suggested that the success of Stories encouraged Meta to bring the feature to its other apps like Facebook and WhatsApp. Status updates are used by many people, especially those like the feature on Instagram and wanted the option on other social media apps as well. Having said that, the feature is still in beta so it might take a while before the official roll out comes to everyone.
WhatsApp is also testing a new feature that will allow users to share music during a video call, essentially enabling them to bond over a music track as they would in person. This functionality is similar to Apple’s SharePlay feature that they can use during FaceTime calls.
