Bengaluru Passenger Exposes Ola Driver's Attempted Fare Scam

The Ola and Uber drivers often play tricks to deceive the customer in a bid to earn more money. A recent case came to light when a cab driver in Bengaluru tried to cheat a woman with her money by showing a screenshot of the fare price without ending the trip. The woman narrated this incident on Reddit. The netizens praised the woman for her vigilance and said that many would ignore the hike in fare prices if they were in a hurry. They also posted other problems related to Uber and Ola cabs, including variable pay, ride cancellation and others. The post has gone viral now.

In the viral Reddit post, a woman in Bengaluru wrote that she goes to Wilson Garden for coaching. For one of the classes, she booked an Ola cab followed by a call from the driver who enquired about the drop location, mode of payment and other details.

“To end the trip, he took his phone from the holder to the side. I was busy collecting my bag. After a minute he said “Madam, amount 749 aagidhe” and showed me his phone.” wrote the woman on Reddit. While mentioning the details of her trip, the woman wrote that she booked the cab from JP Nagar 3rd phase. The estimated fare on the app was Rs 254. The driver pretended to be shocked and said that maybe it could be Ola money dues. Later, he asked her to pay the amount and complained on the app.

“I asked him to show me the amount. He gave me the phone. Something was off with the way it looked. I noticed the Ola app still running in the background. I confirmed that this was not the actual amount and that he was showing me some random screenshot.” wrote the Bengaluru woman on Reddit. After this, she tapped the logo and the app opened. She saw that the driver didn’t end the trip. She confronted the driver about this. He immediately took the phone and ended the trip. The woman later paid the exact fare which the app displayed.
