Bengaluru Techie Rents A 3-BHK Flat For Rs 80,000. He Has Only 1 Regret
The man says his locality has all the essentials nearby. The only regret is that all his friends live too far away.

The real estate costs in places like Bengaluru are as high as the skyscrapers in the city. However, exorbitant rent prices are not stopping people from moving into the city. Recently, a software engineer, Ashish Jha, shared a photo from his 3BHK apartment and wrote, “spending Rs 80,000 in rent feels worth it because of such views”. This post soon went viral with roughly 10 lakh views since it was shared on June 7. It prompted many people to debate whether it is financially sound to pay such expensive rent when “better” options are available.

In a conversation with Moneycontrol, the 26-year-old said that he lives in a gated community in Binnipete, which is 15 minutes away from his office and has all places of convenience near him. He said, “I respect my time more than money. When I moved from Noida to Bengaluru, I had made up my mind that I would cut the daily commute time as much as possible since in my previous job, I had to travel from Noida to Delhi.” He splits the Rs 80,000 rent with two flatmates.

In a follow-up post, he also clarified, “Not every area in the city has a water problem, electricity problem. To add to it some areas actually have a very functional metro. And if you live in such an area close to the city centre, the rents are meant to be high.”

An X user commented, “I would rather spend that 80K roaming the world every month than sitting in a cocoon of a house with that wonky view.”

Another person suggested, “Bro if you are able to afford 80k rent and think it’s cheap, come to Hyderabad. Flat in the prime area !! You can flex similar views with less traffic jams and better food!!”

In response to the critical comments, someone wrote, “God some people are so jealous to see a guy having the ability to spend 80k in the house rent alone. Y’all should take points and stop comparing everything with the amount of money spent.”

Ashish Jha told Moneycontrol revealed one regret about his current living situation and said, “All my friends live too far away! And it takes us a lot of time to visit each other, but apart from that, I have no other regrets.”
