Every year a large number of Indian students go abroad. Students from different countries also settle in Indian universities. Students from countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, France, America, Australia and Japan come to India to study. Pakistani students are also on the list of those studying in Indian universities.

Given the strained relations between the two countries, it is not easy for Pakistani students to get a student visa to India. For this, they have to take permission from both the Indian and Pakistani governments. Even after submitting all the required documents, Pakistani students’ Indian visa is often rejected. For which courses can Pakistanis get an Indian student visa?

Pakistani citizens can get student visas to study in Indian universities. Many conditions need to be fulfilled for this. Pakistani students can get a visa for admission to professional courses offered in Indian universities. These courses include engineering, medicine, law and management. To get a student visa, Pakistani students need to get admission to a recognized university.

Can a student visa be granted for school studies?

Pakistani students are not eligible for an Indian student visa for courses like science/humanities/commerce. At the school level, student visas can only be granted for studying in recognized/approved international schools that accept international students. Also, the schools should have a high fee structure (minimum Rs. 30,000 per month). Student visas can also be granted for studying music, dance, yoga, etc. in institutions recognized by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

How can a Pakistani student get a student visa?

It is not easy for a Pakistani student to get admission to a school or university in India. For this, they must fulfil the following conditions

1- Proof of final admission to a full-time graduation/post-graduation course in a recognized/accredited educational institution in India must be submitted.

2- The Pakistani student must submit proof of financial support. He or she must prove to the satisfaction of the Indian Mission that he or she has transferred sufficient funds for living and studying in India for at least 4 months.

3- Pakistani citizens coming to India on a student visa must register within 24 hours of their arrival in India. They must also inform the local District Police Officer (FRO) about their place of residence.

4- Similarly, they must notify in writing 24 hours before departure that they will be changing their place of residence.
