Birthdays are auspicious occasions that are celebrated by many. From pets to friends, people celebrate the birthdays of their loved ones. Similarly, the Social Welfare Department of Jalna city in Maharashtra celebrated the eighth birthday of trees. Three thousand saplings were planted in the area on the initiative of Social Welfare Commissioner Balbhim Shinde. The birthday was celebrated to promote the care and growth of trees. The birthday celebration of these trees has been taking place every year for the last 8 years. This year, the cake-cutting ceremony took place in the presence of Collector Dr Shrikrishna Panchal. In 2016, the then Assistant Commissioner of the Social Welfare Department, Jalna proposed the idea of planting various trees on the Commissionerate premises. With the consent of all the employees, 3,000 saplings were planted in the Commissionerate premises. In this, trees of Amla, Tamarind, Vad, Pimple and Jambhul have been planted. After planting the trees, the idea of a birthday celebration came to enjoy the growth of the trees.
The birthday ceremony is taking place from the first year of its plantation. This tradition has been going on for the last 8 years. The birthday of 3,000 trees was celebrated. In 2018, saving trees was a big challenge for authorities to save trees in drought situations. Santosh Aade, a staff typist in the commissioner, collected subscriptions ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000 from all the employees and built a borewell at Rs 90,000.
After the installation of the borewell, the water scarcity problem was erased. The Social Welfare Commissionerate area benefits from these trees and serves as the attraction point for the people. Employee Santosh Aade expressed happiness and said that these trees have grown with everyone’s cooperation. He also assured that the birthday celebration of trees will continue in the coming years.
Similarly, an education society in Latur celebrated the birthday of trees planted on its previously barren land a few years ago. The education society took the initiative to plant several hundred trees, including 2,800 saplings using the Japanese Miyawaki method. This effort transformed the barren land into a lush green area.
