Is Pizza A Healthier Breakfast Option Over Cereal? This Nutritionist Thinks So
Surprisingly, an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories, says nutritionist.

People who love having pizza would be delighted to know that a study has remarked this beloved Italian dish as a better breakfast option when compared to most of the commercial breakfast cereals.

However, it is not the healthy alternative as pizzas are high in fats and carbohydrates. Surprisingly, this Italian dish is high in protein as well. For the unversed, protein-rich meals are known to provide energy for a longer duration. The food supplies that have protein keep you feeling full for long.

Chelsey Amer, MD, RDN, CDN and a nutritionist told ABC News, “You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories.” Amer added, “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”

You might wonder about how cereals are a lesser healthier food item than pizza. It is so because the majority of packed cereals are coated with sugar which makes it a not so healthy option for breakfast. Although a bowl of colourful cereal would probably look appetizing but those sugar coated cereals are actually not something to look forward to.

Although pizza is not the healthiest option to be considered as a breakfast choice, one must choose something healthy. Breakfast cereals are high in carbohydrates which make them harder to digest as well. However, comparing them with pizzas totally depends on which pizza or cereal (in terms of nutrition) you are considering.

Despite the fact that a slice of pizza is healthier than a bowl of cereal in the morning, it is also true that a pizza is filled with cheese and other unhealthy toppings.

Considering the same, one can also make a healthy pizza at home too. It can be done by bringing down the amount of cheese that would probably be put in a pizza normally. Instead of flour, one can also use a wholewheat base and top it with vegetables and lean with meat.

What's your reaction?
