Novak Djokovic was cheered by the jubilant crowd present at Belgrade’s The Old Palace.

Serbian great Novak Djokovic came up with one of his finest performances ever to become only the fifth player to win all four singles Grand Slams and the Olympic title. Djokovic got the better of Carlos Alcaraz to clinch a gold medal in the men’s singles at the Paris Olympics. The tennis superstar received a rousing reception upon his return to the country. Djokovic, along with other Serbian Olympics participants, was seen at Belgrade’s The Old Palace, exuberantly cheered by the jubilant crowd present at the venue.

Serbian basketball star Nikola Jokic was also spotted there. As the anchor announced Djokovic’s name, the tennis legend made his way out amidst loud cheer. A video of the moment was shared by Djokovic on Instagram. In the video, Djokovic was seen enthusiastically showing his Paris 2024 Olympics gold medal.

“A golden homecoming,” read the post shared by Novak Djokovic on social media.

Reacting to Novak Djokovic’s post, former French footballer Patrice Evra commented on Instagram, “Best human being, best athlete, never forget his value, never give up, never change his opinion no matter having pressure on any government give this man a status of respect brotha.”

Novak Djokovic’s wife Jelena also reacted to the post by dropping a red heart emoji.

“You deserve all the love outpouring right now for having dealt with everything you have throughout your career you deserve this so enjoy,” read another comment posted on X.

“From Switzerland, feeling so proud and emotional for you just as if I were Serbian. We love you Novak! You’re really our golden champion,” wrote another person.

One social media user wholeheartedly commented, “Novak Djokovic, pride of Serbia. Serbia stands proud, as their champion returns home, not just with trophies, but with the hearts of an entire nation. Congratulations Novak!”

Novak Djokovic was in sublime form at the Paris Olympics. The 24-time Grand Slam champion claimed the gold medal without dropping a set in six matches at the Roland Garros. “I won the bronze in my first Olympic Games (2008) and ever since then failed to win the medal and played three out of four Olympic Games in semifinals and couldn’t overcome that obstacle,” Djokovic told reporters, as per Reuters.

At the age of 37, Novak Djokovic became the oldest man to earn the Olympic singles title since tennis returned to the Games in 1988.
