Olympic gold medallist and Italian swimmer Thomas Ceccon also seems to be struggling with the living conditions in Paris. Going to extreme lengths, he was spotted “sleeping in a park” instead of his room at the Olympic Village. Several pictures have gone viral on the internet, showing Ceccon taking a nap under a tree. Saudi Arabian rower Husein Alireza originally shared a video on his Instagram Stories, showing the swimmer and his new nap place. But is that the complete truth?

Hours after social media was abuzz with pictures of Ceccon amid multiple complaints from other athletes, Husein Alireza clarified his stance. Dubbing them “fake news,” he explained that the location was not a park but the Olympic Village itself. “Lots of fake news coming out of my story yesterday. To clarify, the location was not a ‘park’, but the Olympic Village. It’s also very common for athletes to take naps on the grass by the river,” he wrote.
In the meantime, the videos and pictures have sparked a fresh debate on social media. A user wrote, “They spent all the money on the opening “ceremony” and then couldn’t afford A/C for the athlete.”

While another commented, “Paris is unable to host the Olympics; all the disasters that have occurred show this.”

“This guy is a GOLD MEDALIST doing this if that doesn’t say something is up with the Olympics idk what will,” another comment read.
Previously, the Italian swimmer had already complained publicly about the accommodations in the Olympic Village. “There is no air conditioning in the village; it’s hot, and the food is bad. Many athletes move for this reason: it’s not an alibi or an excuse; it’s the reality of what perhaps not everybody knows. I’m disappointed that I didn’t make the final, but I was too tired. It’s hard to sleep both at night and in the afternoon. Here, I really struggle between the heat and the noise,” he said, as quoted by The Sun.
Following this, the International Olympic Committee also came under fire for the poor living conditions and the use of cardboard beds. Athletes complained about the heat, noise and even the subpar food.
