After Ashwin hit a sublime six in the 53rd over of the first innings, the old woman was seen wholeheartedly cheering.

Ravichandran Ashwin came up with an innings-reviving century today against Bangladesh in the Test series opener. Ashwin remained unbeaten on 102 at the end of first day’s play in Chennai. Ashwin and Jadeja stitched a solid partnership of 195 to pull the hosts out of danger. While it was Ashwin and Jadeja who were the star performers of Day 1 of the Test, it was an elderly Team India supporter who hogged the limelight in the stands. After Ashwin hit a sublime six in the 53rd over of the first innings, the old woman was seen wholeheartedly cheering for the hosts. In another video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the elderly fan was seen praising Ashwin after he breached the 50-run mark.

“An applause for Ravichandran Ashwin across ages,” read the post shared by BCCI on X.

While social media users applauded Ravichandran Ashwin in the comments section, there were many who praised the old fan for showing her incredible dedication to the game. “Happy mother,” read one response.

Another social media user branded Ravichandran Ashwin as the “Greatest all-rounder after Kapil Dev.”

“The partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja has indeed been remarkable! Their synergy on the field has been a key factor in many of India’s successes in Test cricket. Recently, they have been particularly effective against Bangladesh, showcasing their dominance and skill,” read a comment.

This person felt that “Both of them are the real Test batsmen along with Rishabh Pant.”

Praising Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s outstanding batting, another user wrote, “What partnership this is turning out to be for India. Good counter-attack.”

While Ravichandran Ashwin scored a century, Ravindra Jadeja found himself 14 runs behind the three-digit score at the end of the opening day’s play. Thanks to the marvelous century, world no. 1 Test bowler Ashwin joined Ravindra Jadeja in an elite club of players today. Ashwin became only the second cricketer in the world to achieve 1000 runs and claim 100 wickets in the World Test Championship (WTC).

India ended the first day’s play at 339/6. Pacer Hasan Mahmud was the star figure for Bangladesh who picked up four wickets on the first day of the Chennai Test. Nahid Rana and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed one wicket each for the visitors.
