Railways are one of the most commonly used modes of transportations in India, with millions of passengers travelling via trains. If we talk about the fare, it is the same for each class, according to the rules of the railway. Two men from Madhya Pradesh got the shock of their lives, when one was charged higher than the other for the same distance. As per the reports of Local18, the two men, who were brother-in-laws by relation, started a journey from Sagar to Jaipur on October 5. The two had bought tickets from different platforms, added the reports. So, when they sat together in the train and talked, they discovered the differences in the prices. The men then came back to Sagar and revealed the whole ordeal to Local18. When the situation gained more traction, the railway authorities decided to investigate.
The brother-in-laws, Sanjay Nanhoria and Shyam Sundar Soni, are residents of Mohan Nagar, Sagar. They provided more details on the journey in an interview. According to them, the two had to attend a program in Jaipur, for which they left the city on October 5. The journey was to be done with the Dayodaya Express. Sanjay reached the station’s platform-2 at around 11:42 pm and bought a ticket for Rs 205. A few minutes ago, Shyam Sundar had bought a ticket for the same train for Rs 180, from platform-1 of the same station. After taking the train from platform-2, the two checked their tickets and found the price difference.
The senior DCM (Divisional Commercial Manager) Madhur Verma of Jabalpur Railway Station was contacted by Local18, for more details on the matter. He revealed the fare from Sagar to Jaipur is Rs 205, which is the official amount for the trip. The Rs 180 ticket is a mistake and the staff is being counselled for it.
