If you are planning to go somewhere for holidays, then you must know the rules and regulations of that particular place. One should read and research about them well before planning the trip. As it may happen sometimes, a small mistake done unknowingly can put someone in the wrong situation. Recently, a similar incident happened with a US resident. He went abroad to travel but got into big trouble due to a little negligence, and now a fine of Rs 7 lakh has been imposed on him. Now he cannot come back until he pays the entire fine.
According to the report, Tyler Weinrich, a resident of the US, had heard that Britain’s Turks and Caicos Islands are very beautiful. He had been planning to go there for years. One day, suddenly, he packed his bag and left for the Turks and Caicos Islands. He roamed around the whole island with his friends. He also went to the shooting range. There, he unknowingly kept two bullets in his bag, unaware that because of this, he would get into trouble.
When he started returning, he was stopped before boarding the cruise because two 9-mm bullets were found in his bag. The security personnel immediately arrested him. When the matter reached the court, a fine of 9,000 dollars, i.e., about 7.5 lakh rupees, was imposed on him. Not only this, he was sentenced to remain in court detention for the next three weeks.
As per reports, the court said that he would only be able to leave the island after paying the full fine. According to British law, if anyone is found with a gun or its bullets in the Turks and Caicos Islands, he can be sentenced to a minimum of 12 years. A fine of lakhs of rupees may also be imposed. The administration made this law amidst continuous incidents of firing in Britain. However, till now, no tourist has received such a long punishment. Before Weinrich, four US tourists were stuck in similar circumstances and were fined Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.
The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory consisting of the larger Caicos Islands and smaller Turks Islands, two groups of tropical islands in the Lucayan Archipelago of the Atlantic Ocean and the northern West Indies. They are known primarily for tourism and as an offshore financial centre.
