Watch: Man Modifies And Rides Toy Car To Earn A Spot In Guinness World Records
Marcel Paul revealed that he wanted to surpass the iconic 88 mph (141.62 km/h) from the movie Back to the Future, which he claims was his personal goal.

Curiosity about the capabilities of a toy car led German man Marcel Paul to an unconventional achievement, as he secured a Guinness World Records (GWR) title for riding the fastest ride-on toy car. Recently, at Germany’s Hockenheimring, Marcel reached an impressive speed of 148.454 kilometers per hour (km/h) on his modified electric toy car. Speaking about his motivation, Paul revealed that he wanted to surpass the iconic 88 mph (141.62 km/h) from the movie Back to the Future, which he claims was his personal goal. In the video capturing the record breaking moment, Marcel can be seen riding the modified toy car, by nearly lying flat on the vehicle.

Marcel, who is a student of electrical engineering at Fulda University of Applied Sciences fulfilled his dream in August 2023. Before coming up with the final project, the German student did a rigorous ten month research and construction project, which was concluded in July. Sharing the video of Marcel riding the vehicle, GWR wrote, “Fastest ride-on toy car (modified). 148.454 km/h (92.24 mph) by Marcel Paul.”

The video, shared by Guinness World Records on Instagram, has become a viral sensation and garnered over 5 lakh views. Social media users flooded the comments section with praise for Marcel Paul’s determination, while some users added humour to the celebration.

A user wrote, “Finally a good world record.”

Another shared, “Hell no that looks dangerous. Well done.”

“Ferrari at the price of a bicycle,” a comment read.

An individual wondered, “I wanna do that, where can I sign up?”

Another wrote, “That’s wild.”

A user added, “Things faster than my bike.”

A user jokingly compared Marcel’s creation with, “Lighting McQueen,” while another compared him with F1 racing icon, “Max Verstappen.”

In the iconic film Back to the Future, reaching the crucial 88 mph speed in the DeLorean was essential for time travel. The character Doc Brown, played by Christopher Lloyd, invents the flux capacitor and adds it into the vehicle, along with various other devices. Earlier, in an interview with Comic Book, the film’s producer and co-writer, Bob Gale, revealed the reason behind the specific speed requirement for time travel in the DeLorean. Gale said, “First of all we wanted it to be a speed that somebody wouldn’t accidentally drive at. The other thing is, it’s easy to remember.”

Apart from Christopher, the movie also features Michael J Fox, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson, among others.
