The clips involving wild animals and their antics capture the attention of social media buffs but these videos aren’t always pleasant. Recently, a disturbing video of a speeding car hitting a tiger on the Bhandara-Gondia highway in Maharashtra traversing the Navegaon Nagzira sanctuary is doing rounds on the internet.
The short clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter). This collision between a car and an adult male tiger has sent shockwaves. Rescue teams were mobilised to transport the wounded tiger to Nagpur for urgent medical attention, the post stated. However, the big cat succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.
The distressing incident with the tiger occurred on a single-lane stretch of NH 753. It is recognised for its narrow passage through the dense forest region, where the average speed limit stands at a mere 40 km/hour.

The viral video stirred online debate. Queries ranging from the safety of sensitive ecological zones to spreading awareness about driving in jungles or sanctuaries including wildlife conservation efforts were raised. A user said, “What sad news. Why do people drive fast in wildlife areas or around forests.? If you are not a skilled driver, don’t attempt to drive fast.”
Another mentioned, “Why that high speed in an animal reserve and that too at night when one knows that they’ll be roaming free? Reckless driving!” Meanwhile a user commented, “Feeling dejected.”
Previously, a sub-adult tiger died after being hit by a car in the Navegaon-Nagzira corridor of Maharashtra’s Gondia district. The tiger, aged around two years, was hit by a four-wheeler while crossing the road at Murdoli forest on Kohmara-Gondia road, said Pramod Panchbhai, Deputy Conservator Of Forest (DCF), Gondia division. The big cat limped into the bushes, and passersby alerted the forest department, he added.
The tiger was rescued from compartment no 419 in the Goregaon range of the Gondia division, the official stated. The injured animal, however, died on the way to the wildlife rescue centre in Gorewada, Nagpur, he further added.
