Watch: Woman Swipes Card Instead Of Tossing Coin Into Holy Water Body
While most people would throw a coin in a wishing well, this woman decided to swipe her card.

Around the world, there are many holy wishing wells, fountains, or sacred rivers and lakes where people throw coins to make a wish. Now, a viral video shows a woman ‘swiping’ her card in one such holy area. The undated video shows two women standing next to a small water area. One woman throws a coin into this pond, while another woman takes out her card and swipes it across the water like she would do at an ATM.

It is unclear when or where this video was taken. This clip has gathered over 22,000 likes since it was posted. This strange video left social media users amused and perplexed by the woman’s odd antics. Commenting on it, an Instagram user sarcastically wrote, “Galti kardi phone pay krna tha. (You made a mistake, should have done PhonePe.)" Another person wrote, “Pani Ka QR code Scan Kar leti Behan UPI ho jata (Should have scanned water’s QR code, sister, it would have allowed UPI payment.)"

In light of the increasing use of online payment via QR code scanning and card payments, many holy places in India such as the Kedarnath Temple in Uttrakhand and the Jagarnath temple in Odisha have introduced digital payments. This way devotees can make cashless donations.

Over the years many instances have occurred in which people have stolen cash from donation boxes and even taken out coins from wishing wells and fountains.

In December 2022, a video went viral that showed two thieves entering a famous charity fountain at Victoria Centre in Nottingham, England, and stealing the coins that were thrown in the fountain.

A spokesperson for Victoria Centre, told the media, “It appears that two individuals climbed into the fountain of the Emett Clock, taking some of the coins that have been thrown in there. For many years, our shoppers have kindly made ‘penny wishes’ at the Emett Clock, with all of the donations received being given to our chosen charities. It is upsetting for everyone to see the blatant disregard that is being shown for the generosity of others and the vital work that charities in our city carry out – particularly so close to Christmas."

He added, “CCTV footage has been handed to Nottinghamshire Police and anyone with information on the incident should contact them directly."
