And the May 2017 proves it once again. We have compiled a list of the top 10 cars sold in May 2017 and out of 10, 7 cars belong to Maruti and 3 to Hyundai. It will not be wrong to say that the top 10 list pretty much depicts the whole story of the Indian automobile market.
In the overall analysis of May 2017, Maruti sold 1,30,248 units, while Hyundai sold a total of 42,007 units.Top car discounts for June 2016!

Maruti managed to sell 23,618 units in May 2017, as against 22,549 units in April 2017. That’s a 5% growth over the previous month. The Alto 800 and Alto K10 combined, is the single largest selling car in India for years now. 2. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Next up is the Swift hatchback from Maruti Suzuki which has been consistently raking good numbers for years now. The Swift managed to get 16,532 buyer as against 23,802 units in April 2017, a massive 31% dip in the sales. The low sales can be attributed to the announcement of the new 2018 Swift, as well as facelift of Hyundai Grand i10. 3. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
It’s the undying spirit of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R that makes it the third largest selling car in India today. Wagon R sold 15,471 units in May 2017, as against 16,348 units in April 2017, a 5% sales dip. It’s surprising to see how Maruti captures the fancy of buyers in India. Launched to counter the premium hatchback from Hyundai, the Baleno has raked up a total sales of 14,629 units in May 2017, as against 17,530 units in April 2017, a 17% dip. Hyundai Grand i10
Finally, a car other than Hyundai on the list. The Hyundai Grand i10 is the single largest Hyundai to be sold in India with a sales figure of 12,984 units in May 2017. The hatchback got a facelift recently done a little better than the previous month when it sold 12,001 units, a 8% bump in the sales. 6. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Ever since its launch, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has garnered a lot of attention from its buyer. It’s the most sold compact SUV in India with a total sales of 12,375 units in May 2017, a good 16% increase over the April figures where the Brezza sold 10,653 units. 7. Hyundai Elite i20
Another Hyundai on the list and the competitor to the Maruti Baleno, the Elite i20 managed to get 10,667 buyers in May 2017, 16% less than that of the April 2017 sales, where it found 12,668 buyers. The newly launched Maruti Suzuki Dzire has managed to enter the top 10 list of the May sales and sold 9413 units, as against 8797 units in April 2017. But that was the phase out time of the old Dzire and hence low sales. Otherwise, Dzire has always been among the top 3 cars sold in India. 9. Hyundai Creta
The last Hyundai to make it to the top 10 list is the Hyundai Creta compact SUV with a sales figure of 8377 units in May 2017. Creta managed to find 9213 buyers in April 2017, a 9% dip. The reason for the dip could be the high sales of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga
