Double-Decker Flyover Promises Faster Travel for Bengaluru Residents: All You Need to Know
The 3.3 km marvel, costing Rs 449 crore, promises to significantly enhance travel convenience for over 50,000 daily commuters.

In a milestone for urban infrastructure, Bengaluru introduced an inaugural double-decker flyover, poised to transform commuting between Ragigudda and Silk Board in the city. The 3.3 km marvel, costing Rs 449 crore, promises to significantly enhance travel convenience for over 50,000 daily commuters. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and state Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the flyover, integrating road and metro functionalities, marking a pioneering advancement in regional transport infrastructure.

Key Features of the Double Decker Flyover:

  • First of its Kind: Southern India’s maiden double-decker road, pioneering a new era in urban infrastructure.
  • Enhanced Convenience: Provides increased accessibility for travellers commuting between Ragigudda and Silk Board.
  • Length and Cost: Spans 3.3 km, constructed at cost of Rs 449 crore to facilitate smoother transit.
  • Elevated Construction: Constructed at a height of 8 metres above ground level, with the metro yellow line soaring at 16 metres.
  • Daily Traffic: Serves over 50,000 vehicles daily, addressing longstanding congestion issues.
  • Reduced Travel Time: Cuts travel time between Ragigudda and Silk Board from 30-40 minutes to just 5-6 minutes, optimising commuter efficiency.
  • Ramp System: Incorporates five ramps facilitating seamless connectivity to Hosur Road, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout.

The double-decker flyover integrates both road and metro functionalities, featuring a total of five ramps. As of now, construction on three ramps has been completed, while work on the remaining two ramps is currently underway. Notably, this structure marks a significant milestone in southern India’s infrastructure, promising enhanced transport efficiency and connectivity for Bengaluru residents.

Introduction of Metro Yellow Line Alongside the Flyover

The 3.36 km long double-decker flyover, extending from Ragigudda Metro Station to Silkboard Junction, will soon be accompanied by the Yellow Line Metro. Although the metro line is currently awaiting commissioning, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) anticipates its inauguration by December of this year, bolstering the city’s public transport network with enhanced connectivity options.

Enhanced Connectivity via Flyover Ramps

Ramp A links Ragigudda Metro Station directly to Hosur Road, while Ramp B provides seamless access to HSR Layout. Ramp C facilitates smooth travel from BTM Layout to both Hosur Road and HSR Layout. This integrated connectivity allows passengers traveling to these destinations to bypass Silk Board Junction entirely, alleviating congestion on the Outer Ring Road and improving overall traffic flow.
