New Delhi: Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) today said it has resumed normal production at Greater Noida facility, after witnessing lower output since November, due to floods in Thailand affecting component supplies.
"We are delighted to announce that we have resumed two shift operation from today. We will have production of 370 cars per day from today and from next week it will ramp up to 440 units per day," HSCI Senior Vice-President (Marketing and Sales) Jnaneswar Sen said in a statement.
The company is hopeful of achieving its peak capacity next month, he added.
"Honda has been carefully monitoring the part supply process and have taken all the necessary recovery actions to normalise production situation with critical components now being sourced from Japan and China," Sen said.
The company is now focusing on clearing the backlog of its latest hatchback 'Brio' and hopes to clear it by March-end, he added.
The production of the new City has already been resumed and more than 1,500 units were rolled out in January.
"The production of Brio is resuming from mid-February 2012, while the production of Jazz will start towards the end of February," the company said.
In November, HSCI had said that its production would be severely affected due to supply shortages from Thailand, which was fighting with a devastating flood.
The parts constraints affected all models produced in India, but the impact was much more on the compact cars Brio, Jazz and the flagship sedan City because of large volumes.
At that time, HSCI was recovering from the impact of the Tsunami in Japan last year and was ready to resume full production from November.
However, the company's plants in Thailand as well as its suppliers, based in northern and central parts of the country, which experienced the worst flood in 50 years, was severely affected.
