Hyderabad Metro Revokes Discounted Holiday Card, Increases Fare By 10 Percent
The Hyderabad Metro Rail has removed the Rs 59 holiday card and also hiked metro fares by 10 per cent during peak travel hours.

Sparking a wave of dismay among passengers, the Hyderabad Metro Rail has announced the removal of the 10 per cent discount on travel during peak hours.

The discount benefit, which received a lot of appreciation from commuters, was offered through its Rs 59 holiday card, applicable to all the journeys undertaken between 6 AM and 8 AM and 8 PM and midnight, as reported by Times Now News.

The announcement arrives as city residents increasingly turn to metro services for their comfort and convenience amidst soaring temperatures. Many commuters, particularly those relying on the metro for their daily travels, find themselves taken aback by this decision. Furthermore, passengers had anticipated discounted fares with the onset of summer.

Going into the details of the recent decision, while the Rs 59 holiday card has been revoked, the Hyderabad metro has also shocked commuters by announcing a fare hike of 10 per cent, leaving many puzzled and frustrated.

As passengers continued to appeal to the metro authorities to reconsider the decision and reinstate the discounts and the holiday card, many also took to social media, arguing about how the discounts play a crucial role in making metro travel affordable for daily commuters.

Student Metro Card Validity Till 30 April 2024

While the revocation of the holiday has already left passengers disheartened, L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited has also announced that the Student Metro Card will end on 30 April 2024.

According to the latest report, the Student Metro Card will be valid until 30 April while other cards like the Super Saver Holiday Card, the Metro Student Pass, and the Super Offer Peak Hour have already concluded.

Notably, these cards offered discounted fares and many other benefits to daily passengers, enhancing affordability. For instance, the Metro Student Pass enabled students to avail of 10 extra free trips after a purchase of 20 trips across all fare zones.

Amid all the fare hikes and discount withdrawals, L&T Metro Rail has also taken an innovative move by launching “Office Bubbles” at Hitech City, Durgam Cheruvu, and Madhapur Metro stations. Recognising the need for flexible workspaces, the office bubbles are secure and remote co-working spaces, which marks a first-of-its-kind in the Indian urban transport sector.
