Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ was chosen the smartphone of the year and Hyundai Verna was chosen the car of the year in the first edition of the News18.com Tech and Auto Awards on Friday.
Here are the winners in eight categories each in the Auto and tech sectors:

Car of the year: Hyundai Verna
Two-wheeler of the year: Triumph Street Triple S
Sedan of the year: Hyundai Verna
Hatchback of the year: Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS
SUV of the year: Jeep Compass
Luxury car of the year: Audi A5
Design of the year: Porsche 718 Boxster

Indian consumer app of the year: Paytm
Tech personality of the year: Vijay Shekhar Sharma
Affordable smartphone of the year: Nokia 6
Dual camera smartphone of the year: Honor 8 Pro
Design of the year: Samsung Frame TV
Selfie smartphone of the year: Honor 9i
Editor’s choice gadget of the year: Bose QC 35-II
The nominations were considered for products that were launched between 1 November 2016 and 31 October 2017.
The very best from the two industries competed across 16 categories in the first edition of News18.com Tech and Auto Awards.
Before the mega jury round, a popular voting was held on News18.com where thousands of people voted across categories. In some of the sections, the difference between competing gadgets and cars was less than 100, despite over 10,000 votes, making it a nail-biting finish and leaving the jury with touch choices. Audience voting carried 40% weightage.

While Union minister for law and justice and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad attended the event and handed out some of the awards, Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari addressed the gathering through a special video conference.
