The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) has announced that residents will soon be able to use public transport services across the newly-constructed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) to reach the financial capital.
“We have planned at least four services and two air-conditioned electric buses will ply through the bridge,” Hindustan Times quoted NMMT manager Yogesh Kaduskar as saying.
During the maiden run, Bus number 115 will transport commuters from Nerul to Mantralaya, while covering the Kharkopar belt and Ulwe region.
This is an air-conditioned service and so far, has been plying from Kharkopar to Mantralaya. “Still, in keeping with the residents’ demand, the service will now start from Nerul and take the route via MTHL,” the report quoted an official as saying.
For the 52-km journey from Nerul to Mantralaya, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport has decided to keep the fare at Rs 90 only.
Kaduskar informed that there shall be no fare revision and administration will charge the fares presently applicable in every AC bus.
However, it is still not clear whether public transport services will have to pay the hefty toll charges meant for private buses or whether they will be provided any concession in it.
“I am excited to witness the successive launch of multiple public transport services on the #AtalSetu! I’ve always stressed that the real impact of infrastructure projects is felt when they benefit the average Mumbaikar. Thank you, CM @mieknathshinde Ji, for being receptive to my suggestions,” former Union Minister Milind Deora, who recently joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, wrote on X on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), also known as the Atal Setu, last month. Earlier, Milind Deora urged the BEST to start a bus service across the MTHL.
In a letter to Vijay Singhal, General Manager, BEST on January 5, Deora wrote, “I request you to develop a plan for an express bus link using the MTHL. A bus could run directly from CSMT stations to Kharkopar station, allowing Navi Mumbai commuters to come directly into the heart of Mumbai. I request you to plan multiple such routes in coordination with the MMRDA and Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT), and commence these routes as soon as possible.”
Recently, it was reported that the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is finalising the route for Mumbai’s inaugural bus service across the Atal Setu.
