The Nissan-Renault Alliance plant is one of the most awarded and largest facility of the brand globally and produces both Nissan and Renault cars.

Nissan Motor Company, the Japanese carmaker and a part of Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance has been making cars for global market for almost 100 years now and has been one of the largest electric car maker in the world. In 2005, Nissan entered India with products like Teana and X-Trail and later launched cars like Sunny, Micra and Terrano. However, somewhere down the line, Nissan lost its mojo and sales came crashing.

But that’s a story of the past. Nissan has now bounced back all thanks to one product – the Nissan Magnite. The Magnite is the brand’s first compact SUV made in India for the Indian consumers and offers many first in class features. We recently interacted with Rakesh Srivastava, MD, Nissan to understand such first in segment features like the Around View Camera among others.

These features have pushed Magnite sales through the roof and the SUV is now commanding a waiting period as high as 6 months. A total of more than 6,500 Magnite have been sold till date, February being the best month with 4,244 unit sales. Magnite has also received over 40,000 bookings. We were invited to the Nissan-Renault’s plant in Chennai to witness the making of the Magnite. We also asked Mr Srivastva on the steps taken to decrease the waiting period.

The Nissan Renault plant is one of the most awarded and largest facility of the brand globally and produces both Nissan and Renault cars, also exporting them to various markets. Lastly, on being asked about the rationale behind launching a new car at the pandemic, Rakesh Srivastva said that despite slowdown, Magnite has received tremendous response and he hopes the momentum keeps going.
