One of India’s finest and most accomplished badminton players, Sindhu has registered several records in her illustrious career. Sindhu embarked on a journey to badminton glory at a very young age. She joined Pullela Gopichand’s academy to prepare herself for the sport’s highest level.

Boasting back-to-back Olympic medal wins in 2016 and 2020, Sindhu has inspired young athletes to pursue their dreams and strive for greatness. As Sindhu celebrates her birthday today, let us take a look at some of her major accomplishments.

Asian Junior Championships, 2009

PV Sindhu broke into prominence early, winning her first major international medal in 2009. She claimed a bronze in the sub-junior Asian Badminton Championships.

Commonwealth Youth Games, 2011

Just a couple of years after her Bronze at the Asian Junior Championships, PV Sindhu won her first-ever gold medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2011.

Quintuple Bronze finish, 2014

PV Sindhu was an unstoppable force in 2014. She won bronze medals in the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, the Uber Cup in New Delhi, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Asian Games in Incheon and the Asian Championships in Gimcheon.

Olympic Silver, 2016

PV Sindhu surprised the whole country with a silver medal in women’s singles in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She became the youngest (21 years) and first Indian woman to win a silver medal at the Olympics.

Commonwealth Gold, 2018

PV Sindhu won her first Commonwealth Gold in 2018 in the mixed team event in Gold Coast. But she only managed a silver in the singles event.

World Championship Gold, 2019

Just a year after her mixed-team Commonwealth Gold, PV Sindhu beat Nozomi Okuhara at the BWF World Championship final. She beat her opponent 21-7, 21-7 to become the women’s singles world champion.

Olympic Games Bronze, 2020

PV Sindhu won a second medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the women’s singles event. She became the first-ever Indian woman to win two Olympic medals.

Commonwealth Gold in Singles, 2022

Despite winning several medals, PV Sindhu had to wait until 2022 to earn her maiden singles event gold at the Commonwealth Games. She beat Michelle Li in the final to achieve this feat.

Off-Court Achievements

Apart from winning several medals on the court, PV Sindhu has also been awarded the Arjuna Award in 2013, the Padma Shri in 2015 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (now Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna) in 2016.
