What are Disney knees?
“Disney knees” is a pose that involves leaning forward and bending one’s knees inward. The pose was popularized by Disney Channel stars in the early 2000s, but it wasn’t yet called by this name. The quintessential example of Disney knees occurs during Demi Lovato’s performance of “This is Me” in Camp Rock (2008). As she sings, Demi leans forward and bends her knees inward, so that they’re angled toward each other (check out this video for reference). Miley Cyrus can also be seen doing the move in her music video for “7 Things”.
How did Disney knees go viral on social media?
Social media users started posting about “Disney knees” in the 2020s. The term gained popularity on social media when Millennial and Gen Z creators started to post about the unique pose that all the Disney Channel stars from their childhoods seemed to strike while performing. They also pointed out that current stars who got their start at Disney have a habit of striking the Disney knee pose, even though they’ve moved on to their own solo careers. For example, check out these videos of Olivia Rodrigo and Sabrina Carpenter—unmistakable Disney Knees!
In 2025, a viral Disney Knees trend emerged on TikTok. The videos take place at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, or Disney World in Orlando, Florida. One person pretends to limp and holds their knee, saying, “My knee hurts.” The camera flashes to another person, who says, “Which knee?” Then the first person replies, “Dis-knee” and strikes the Disney Knees pose in front of a backdrop of the Disney Park they’re in, while the audio switches to the song “This Is Me” from Camp Rock. This TikTok by user @anastasiaviegas16 is a great example of the trend! Dancing With the Stars dancer Valentin Chmerkovskiy also participated in the trend on a trip to Disneyland with his dance partner on the show, Alix Earle, posting this viral TikTok. The queen of Disney knees herself, Demi Lovato, also participated in her own version of the trend in this TikTok posted to her account. The video went mega-viral, with a whopping 8.7 million likes and 53.2 million views.
How to Do the “Disney Knees” Trend
Got a trip to Disneyland or Disney World coming up? Participate in the “Disney Knees” trend with your very own hilarious TikTok! Here’s how to do it: Find the original TikTok sound by user @anastasiaviegas16 that people have been using in the background of their videos. Decide who is going to say each line, then film your TikTok with each of you mouthing along to the words in the audio. For the latter part of your video (when the sound switches to “This Is Me” from Camp Rock), film clips of yourself and other people in your group striking the Disney Knees pose in front of various backdrops at the park. Post your TikTok and include the hashtags #disneyknees and #disknees, and that’s it!
