A party night turned into a tragedy for a 27-year-old software engineer after he accidentally fell from the 33rd-floor balcony of his friend’s flat at Bhattarahalli near KR Pura in east Bengaluru on Friday morning and died.
Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the deceased identified as Divyanshu Sharma allegedly slipped while trying to dispose of cigarette ash, reported Times of India, adding that the man then fell near the walking track of the apartment complex.
The man, who was working in a private company as an engineer was from Uttar Pradesh and was living in Kodigehalli (KR Pura). According to police, Sharma’s father is said to be a retired Indian Air Force employee who lives in Horamavu with other family members.
Sharma along with his friends planned to go to a movie in Phoenix mall on Friday. The group turned out to be late for the movie and then, decided to go to a pub in Indiranagar and returned to his friend’s home by 2:30 am.
He told his friend that he would clean the room, and the accident is thought to have occurred while he was flicking cigarette ash outside the balcony.
“Everyone was asleep and Divyanshu decided to clean the room which was filled with ash and cigarette buds as they partied the whole night. It looks like he slipped from the balcony of 33rd floor while throwing the ash outside,” quoted Hindustan Times as saying KR Puram police.
Early in the morning, society members spotted the body and informed other members through their common WhatsApp group. “The body was found close to the playground, and the person’s ID card was used to identify him. The policeman said, adding that they were awaiting the autopsy report to the man to verify the cause of death and had questioned all of his companions.
