Baraguru Ramachandrappa’s directorial venture, the children’s movie Chinnara Chandra, is garnering international acclaim for its innovative storyline and compelling screenplay. Adapted from the novel Adagulajji, penned by the director himself, the film recently made waves at the Dubai International Film Festival 2024. Notably, Akanksh Baraguru, the grandson of Baraguru Ramachandrappa, clinched the Best Actor award for his performance in the movie, which also secured the accolade for Best Children’s Movie.

Following its double triumph at the prestigious Dubai International Film Festival, the Kannada film Chinnara Chandra is now generating buzz within the entertainment industry. The movie features Akanksh Baraguru in the lead role, alongside actors Niksha, Shadja, Ishaan and veteran actor Sundar Raj in prominent roles. With a core message emphasising education and equality, the film resonates deeply with audiences.

Chinnara Chandra has also been showcased at other renowned international film festivals, including the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Ahmedabad International Children’s Film Festival. Suresh Arasu edited the film, Nagaraj Advani handled the cinematography and Shamitha Malnad composed the music.

In a bid to promote harmony and equality in society, the makers are planning to screen the movie in state schools. This move underscores the film’s commitment to social upliftment and education.

The Dubai International Film Festival 2024, held from January 31 to February 6, featured a diverse array of over 2,000 films, including 500 Arab films. Serving as a significant platform for regional filmmakers, the festival provided an ideal showcase for Chinnara Chandra, highlighting its universal appeal and thematic relevance.

Baraguru Ramachandrappa, a renowned film director and novelist, is celebrated for his novel storylines in Kannada cinema. His illustrious career includes notable achievements such as winning the National Award for Best Lyrics for the song Baruthe Ve Nav Baruthe Ve in the film Thaayi (2002) and receiving the prestigious Pampa Award in 2011 for his contributions to Kannada literature. With a directorial debut in 1978 with Ondu Oorina Kathe, which earned him the State Award for Best Story Writer, Ramachandrappa continues to leave an indelible mark on the industry.
