After losing a last-ball thriller to reigning champions MI in the tournament opener, DC have found their mojo in the tournament, by registering twin victories over UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The star in each of those wins has been South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp, who took 3 for 5 in the first match and put in an all-round performance with both bat and ball in the second match against RCB to help her side claim full points in both the matches.
The batting form of Shafali Verma in the last two games has been a huge positive for the side, with the opening batter scoring back-to-back half-centuries and DC will hope for her to carry that form into their final match of the Bengaluru leg on Sunday.
Alice Capsey also had a good day with the bat against RCB on Thursday and heading into their home leg, starting on Tuesday, DC will hope that Jemimah Rodrigues can get some runs under her belt on Sunday.
GG, on the other hand, are having a tournament to forget after losing their opening three matches and they would hope that the only way for them from here would be up. But that upward journey in the tournament will demand a combined performance with both bat and ball on Sunday.
A key factor hampering GG’s batting is the lack of runs from the Indian batters. The likes of Harleen Deol, Veda Krishnamurthy and D Hemalatha have just not delivered as per expectations, which has meant GG have not been able to challenge the opposition in terms of the score that they have put on the board.
If GG are to get their first points on the board on Sunday, it will require an efficient performance across all three departments of the game. One of the few positives for them so far has been the performance of Tanuja Kanwer, who has delivered with the ball whenever she has got the chance and Beth Mooney will hope for her to put in a shift on Sunday as her side looks to get off the mark on the points table.
Sunday will present both these teams one last opportunity to entertain the crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, who have turned up and filled the venue in every match so far. If DC and GG can play to their potential, then the fans would have had their Sunday’s worth.
