Subhash Ghai’s blockbuster movie Ram Lakhan has completed 35 years on January 27. The movie became the second highest-grossing film, next to Salman Khan-starrer Maine Pyaar Kiya in the year 1989. Actors Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Madhuri Dixit played the lead roles in Ram Lakhan. While recalling the making of the movie, Subhash Ghai said that the script of Ram Lakhan was written by him in just 15 days in Khandala. In an interview with a media portal, Subhash Gai said that he didn’t have any star cast in mind for the film. He just wanted to make the film with those actors who were immediately available for shooting. “I needed to start my film shoot urgently with available actors and not stars. The script was improvised on the sets and in the music studios,” said Subhash Ghai.
Ram Lakhan achieved cult status after its release. The audience appreciated the camaraderie shown between the lead actors, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor, in the movie. The film was improvised on the sets, and was filled with happy memories for the actors and director. “The biggest hit of its time was made with full passion, sheer talent and hard work. We still smile at this roller coaster,” shared Subhash Ghai.
Jackie Shroff was considered Subhash Ghai’s first choice in those days. He has made many films with the actor such as Karma, Khal Nayak, Trimurti and Hero. The duo gave numerous blockbusters at the box office.
Ram Lakhan was released on January 27, 1989. The story of the film was written by Anwar Khan. Apart from the lead actors, actress Raakhee and late actor Amrish Puri played a prominent role in the film. The music of the movie was composed by the musician duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, while the lyrics were penned by Anand Bakshi. Songs like My Name is Lakhan and Tera Naam Liya achieved evergreen status in Bollywood. Subhash Ghai made a special appearance in the song Tera Naam Liya. The actors also received numerous awards for their performance in the movie.
