New Delhi: Speaking minutes after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the Union Budget 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed it as a Budget that will strengthen the hopes of the 1.25 crore citizens of the country.
“This Budget strengthens the hopes of 1.25 crore Indians. It is a common-man-friendly, business-friendly and development-friendly Budget. We have focused on ease of living as well as ease of doing business. Our farmers have produced record grains and vegetables. To strengthen farmers further, we have taken several important steps,” Modi said.
The PM added that the focus of this year’s Budget was on several “welfare schemes” that would raise the standard of living for the poorest Indians, including those from the Dalit community. The PM said, “Our welfare schemes will have direct benefit for Dalits, poor and backward citizens who are standing at the end of society.”
He added, “For the longest time, Medium, Small and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs) faced a lot of burden on the tax front. In this Budget, we have also reduced the corporate taxes that MSMEs owe. Now, they have to pay only 25% tax instead of 30%.”
