GMR-led joint venture company plans to develop an aerotropolis around the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the Capital.

New Delhi: GMR-led joint venture company, Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) plans to develop an aerotropolis around the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the Capital, which could provide facilities like convention centres, malls and golf course.

"DIAL proposes to build a world class Aerotropolis by developing 250 acres of land around the Delhi Airport for commercial activities," a company official said.

The company plans to partner with leading real estate developers in the country to set up facilities for business as well as casual travellers.

The DIAL official said developing the Aerotropolis was a part of the company's plans to increase non-aeronautical revenue.

"GMR DIAL expects to enhance revenue from non-aeronautical services and the Aerotropolis would play a key role in meeting that target," the official said.

The proposed Aerotropolis is expected to be linked with the city via an eight lane highway as well as the high speed Metro Line running from the city centre.

The Aerotropolis, to be linked with the booming business and commercial hub in nearby Gurgaon, would have recreation centres, hotels and other leisure activities.

GMR-led DIAL had won the bid to modernise the Delhi airport at an estimated cost of Rs 2,800 crore.
