New Delhi: Three days ahead of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s presentation of the Union Budget, Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramaniam on Monday revealed the 2018 Economic Survey of India.

At his press conference on Monday, Subramaniam posed with a copy of the economic survey, which details the macro economic situation in the country over the last year. One of the things that struck observers at the press conference was the bright pink cover page of the economic survey.

Explaining the significance of the colour choice, the CEA said this was because the government was standing in solidarity with women’s movements across the country. “The pink cover of the economic survey report is for women,” Subramaniam said, adding, “With this cover, we are extending our support to the movement for women’s rights.”

The “pink” theme of the 2018 Economic Survey Report was not limited to just the hard copy, even the website of the Economic Survey, from the website banner to the icons and hyperlinks on the website, was almost entirely pink.

Needless to say, empowerment of women and gender equality are likely to be the focus of the upcoming Union Budget for the financial year 2018-19.
