MP wants Margadarsi depositors' list
Arun Kumar demanded that Margadarsi Financiers, owned by media baron Ramoji Rao make public its list of depositors.

New Delhi: Congress MP U Arun Kumar, who first made allegations of financial irregularities in Margadarsi Financiers, on Saturday demanded that the company owned by media baron Ramoji Rao make public its list of depositors.

The firm's refusal to part with information regarding its 2.50 lakh-odd depositors had raised doubts in peoples’ minds, he said.

Kumar objected to the company's refusal to provide details about its operations to a government-instituted inquiry commission.

He claimed that it had given to rise to apprehensions that there could be "several benami depositors".

The main charge against Margadarsi is that it allegedly mobilized huge public deposits in violation of the provisions of the RBI Act. The company's total deposits stood at Rs 2,620 crores on March 31, 2006.

When Kumar was told that leaders across the political spectrum had condemned the ongoing campaign against the media group by Andhra Pradesh's Congress government, the MP said they were misled by the media baron and were not fully conversant with the facts of the case.

He said he would meet leaders of various parties and explain to them that the government was not resorting to any vindictive action but was only acting in line with the law in the interests of depositors.
