Chennai: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday held discussions on ways to step up revenue collection for 2011-12 with top officials of Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
The meeting discussed steps for augmentation for revenue in the remaining part of the financial year, an official release said.
In his address, Mukherjee suggested that the officials focus on litigation in various appellate forums and collection of arrears to maximise the revenue collection.
During the meeting, the challenges faced by the CBEC and CBDT were also discussed and a strategy was also drawn to achieve the revenue target, the release said.
Revenue and Finance Secretary R S Gujral, CBEC chairman JM Shanti Sundharam, CBDT member Manjari Kacker and all chief commissioners of Central Excise, Customs and Income Tax department participated in the meeting, the release said.
