New Delhi: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Friday reacted to the Tata pullout and said it was a matter of regret.

Following is the statement:

"It is indeed regretful that the Tatas have had to pull out of Singur.

CII feels that the Tatas have been very patient and this decision has come as a compulsion after the political dialogues failed to yield a consensus on the issue. The political consensus should have happened and such an iconic project should have come up in the state of West Bengal.

CII feels that such occurrences need to be avoided in the future, as this only affects the image of the India.

Looking at this outcome, CII is of the strong opinion that a full review and consensus needs to be reached on how land acquisitions needs to happen in the future.

It should be the onus of the political leadership of the country to ensure and facilitate investments in the country without unnecessary delays being created."

Ex-CII President and MD, Hero Group, Sunil Kant Munjal said the Tatas having to pull out of Singur is unfortunate for the state.

“Whenever something like this happens, it has a sense of finality which I think is regretful because many of us believed that this would get resolved. The project would not just get attention but also facilitation. It is important for not just Tata but the nation as whole to provide facilitation and job migration. Bengal was making concerted effort to bring back the industry,” he said.
