The Tamil Nadu government is implementing several schemes for the betterment of women in the state. A special scheme is currently being implemented as a huge saving scheme at post offices by the central government. It is undertaken by the Indian Postal Department and its purpose is to protect the welfare of the women.
Viluppuram’s Assistant Postmaster Sadiq Pasha has shared the benefits and process of this scheme and the main benefit is that it helps women open bank accounts with high interest and minimum investment.
While talking to News18, Postmaster Sadiq said that the interest rate in this scheme is 7.5 per cent while the duration of this programme is 2 years. The maximum amount which can be invested is Rs 2 lakh whereas the minimum amount is Rs 1,000. All women and girls can join this programme. A woman can open multiple accounts under this scheme. The next account can be opened after three months of the existing account. Sadiq Pasha added that women can join this scheme with the help of basic documents like an Aadhaar card, PAN card and passport-size photographs.
Registration for this scheme can also be done through the official website–https://www.indiapost.gov.in/. Apart from this, there are many special schemes like the Ponmagan Pdhuvaippu Nidhi Scheme and the Sukanya Samriddhi Account (SSA). Sadiq Pasha requested the people to become aware of several post office schemes which are currently in effect.
The DMK government is currently running its flagship scheme for poor women called Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thgai scheme which provides women with a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000. Women who are below the poverty line are eligible for this scheme. It was launched on September 15 this year.
