Mumbai/Chennai: The Tamil Nadu police has denied the Mumbai Police’s claim that Chennai hotelier Vikram Aggarwal is untraceable saying it has issued a summon to him to appear on May 30. This even as the Mumbai Police says it is yet to summon Vikram Agarwal for questioning over his links to the IPL betting racket as he is currently untraceable.
The Mumbai Police said the call record details reveal the hotelier’s link to actor Vindoo Dara Singh, BCCI chief N Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and bookie Jupiter. Sources also say that Aggarwal could be a crucial link in the betting ring in Chennai.
Aggarwal’s lawyer, Abudu Kumar, had on Monday said that his client was already in the custody of the Tamil Nadu CB-CID. “We presume that Vivek Aggarwal was picked up by CB-CID officers. He has not been remanded so far. He was picked up from his residence at 7:30am,” Kumar told CNN-IBN. He added, “There were summons by the Tamil Nadu CBI-CID officers for May 30. The summons were issued for him to be a witness,” said Kumar. The CB-CID, however, denied this.
Aggarwal, who also reportedly goes by the name of Victor, is reportedly the franchisee owner of hotel Radisson Blu in Chennai. Sources said that arrested Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh had named Aggarwal as oone the bookies during questioning. Vindoo had reportedly told the police that a hotelier with Bollywood links was involved in betting in the Indian Premier League.
Meanwhile, the custody of Vindoo and two others – hawala operator Alpesh Taneja and bookie Prem Taneja – ends on Tuesday. The police are likely to seek a further extension.
