'Got Opportunity To Hold T20 World Cup': Superfan Sudhir Chaudhury Arrives In Delhi With Team India
Indian cricket team's superfan, Sudhir Chaudhary, travelled to India from Barbados with India's T20 World Cup 2024-winning team, and he expressed his happiness over getting a chance to hold the trophy.

Hundreds of Indian cricket fans gathered at the IGI airport in Delhi on Thursday morning to welcome the Rohit Sharma-led Indian men’s cricket team, who rewrote history by lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados on June 29. In the final played at Kensington Oval, India defeated South Africa by seven runs.

The Indian team was supposed to return to India on Sunday (June 30), but the return got delayed due to a hurricane on the Caribbean island. After spending three days in Barbados due to the closure of airports, Indian players and members of the support staff left the island on Wednesday and landed in Delhi on Thursday morning.

The Air India flight also carried various Indian journalists who were stuck on the island, along with Sachin Tendulkar’s superfan, Sudhir Kumar Choudhary. Upon reaching India with the T20 World Cup 2024-winning team, Sudhir shared his excitement during an interaction with news agency ANI. According to Sudhir, he was hopeful that Team India would end an 11-year-long trophy drought this year.

The 42-year-old Bihar-born cricket fan was present at the Kensington Oval, where India beat South Africa in the nail-biting final, and he also got a chance to pose for photos with the T20 World Cup trophy.

“I also came here to Delhi from the West Indies with Team India. I said in interviews that ‘2007 ki jeet Team India karegi repeat’. Team India lifted the World Cup in Barbados, and I am fortunate that I also got the opportunity to lift the World Cup,” Sudhir Chaudhury said after reaching the Delhi airport.

After landing in Delhi on Thursday morning, Indian players received a grand welcome at the ITC Maurya hotel. The players took a rest for a while at the hotel and then left to meet PM Narendra Modi at his residence. After having breakfast with PM Modi, Indian players will leave for Mumbai, where BCCI has made arrangements for a victory parade at Marine Drive, followed by a prize distribution ceremony at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
