It was a sensational comeback victory for the Indian cricket team against their arch-rivals Pakistan in a low-scoring humdinger in their group-stage fixture between the fierce rivals in the T20 World Cup 2024. The game that took place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York saw their lead pacer, Jasprit Bumrah show why he was a cut above the rest when it comes to the pacers in the shortest format, helping his side script an immense comeback.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, the skipper Rohit Sharma was fairly critical of the batting unit for not being up to par. The side were unable to get any partnerships going in their favour with Rishabh Pant being the top-scorer with a fighting knock of 42 in 31 balls.
The Indian skipper said, “We didn’t bat well enough. Halfway through our innings, we were in a good position. We didn’t put enough partnership there and fell short with the bat”.
The momentum was with Pakistan with a run-a-ball target of 120 being posted by the Men in Blue. But Rohit revealed that the mood within the camp was to fight for every single run in the second innings which kept them back in the game.

“We spoke about every run matters on a pitch like that. There was enough in the pitch. Was a good wicket to be honest, compared to the last game,” Rohit commented.
Rohit maintained confidence in his bowling line-up to do the job and revealed the message in the dressing room to inflict the same damage that was done against them to their opponents.
He added, “With a bowling lineup like that, you feel confident to do the job. Halfway through the stage when they were batting, we got everyone together and said that if it can happen to us, it can happen to them”.
Speaking on his bowlers, Rohit did not want to talk too much about Bumrah as he wanted to see his lead pacer in the same mindset as he was in today’s game.

“A little contribution from everyone can make a huge difference. He’s going from strength to strength (Bumrah). We all know what he can do. Not going to talk too much about him. Want him to be in that mindset throughout the WC. He’s a genius, we all know that,” he said.
“The crowd was superb. They never disappoint wherever we play. I’m sure they’ll be going home with a big smile. It’s just the start, we have a long way to go,” Rohit concluded by thanking the crowds for their support.
