Jasprit Bumrah played the starring role in Mumbai Indians’ second win on the trot in the ongoing IPL 2024 as they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by seven wickets on Thursday night at the Wankhede Stadium. Bumrah took a five-wicket haul that included the prized scalps of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis.
Bumrah, who became the first bowler in IPL history to take a five-wicket haul against RCB, has been hailed as the best T20 bowler by RCB captain Du Plessis.
Du Plessis scored a solid half-century and was the top-scorer in RCB innings as they posted 196/8 from 20 overs. The South African says that teams want to put Bumrah under pressure but the various options MI star can dip into makes him a formidable opponent.
Du Plessis admitted that Bumrah was the difference between RCB and MI.
“He (Bumrah) has been the difference in the two innings. We put them under pressure but the one guy, being out there myself, and you see him with the ball in his hand. You want to put him under pressure, but the variety does everyone in. He has got a really good bouncer, slower ball,” Du Plessis told the broadcasters after the match.

Bumrah finished with excellent bowling figures of 5/21 from his four overs and even though RCB finished with a good total, the impact of the fast bowler’s spell was felt later on when MI sailed to the target in just 15.3 overs.
Ishan Kishan (69 off 34), Suryakumar Yadav (52 off 19) ripped through RCB bowlers as MI completed a seven-wicket triumph.
Someone like (Lasith) Malinga was the best bowler in T20 cricket but Bumrah has taken over the reins. You know you can bring him on and take the wickets but also be defensive,” Du Plessis said.
Bumrah gave an insight into how he prepares for a particular contest and how he does his research on batters.
“Nowadays, you just cannot come on the day and say okay I’ll do this, maybe this will work,” Bumrah said during the post-match presentation. “For me, preparation is always the key. When you prepare hard, you put yourself under pressure in the nets. You bowl to batters in the nets who hit big sixes, find out how you react to pressure. Then you start finding answers. That is very very important for me – to keep pushing yourself in training. Then on game day, you have answers that okay when I had similar pressure in training, I had answers. I do my research and see where the batter is strong.”
