The Mumbai Indians are having a forgetful IPL campaign this year. Despite being one of the most successful franchises in the competition’s history, the MI have struggled for form in 2024. More than midway into the season, nothing has changed for the five-time winners with them being on a three-match losing streak currently.
The Mumbai Indians will be heading into today’s clash at the Wankhede Stadium with history favouring their side. The Kolkata Knight Riders have not won a single game against MI at their home in the last 12 years. More than a decade ago in 2012, it was Sunil Narine who spearheaded KKR to a dominant victory.
MI’s win percentage of 71.8 against KKR is also the most dominant head-to-head record in the IPL. Mitchell Starc will be making his way back into the KKR squad as he looks to overcome his run-leaking to give his side an early advantage.
Gautam Gambhir’s mentorship has certainly revamped the Kolkata Knight Riders this season. The two-time IPL champions are currently placed second on the IPL 2024 points table with six wins in nine matches. They secured a dominant victory against the Delhi Capitals in their previous match. Chasing a total of 153, KKR beat the 2020 IPL finalists by seven wickets.
