MS Dhoni may be past his prime and stepped away from Chennai Super Kings captaincy but the ability to play big shots that made him an instant fan favourite during the early part of his international career seems intact. In the ongoing IPL 2024, Dhoni has been batting quite low down the CSK batting order which has limited his batting opportunities.
However, the few occasions he’s walked in to bat, Dhoni has ensured the crowd gets its money’s worth. In his recent exploits with the bat during IPL’s El Clasico between CSK and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, the former CSK captain blasted an unbeaten 20 off four deliveries, an innings that included a hat-trick of sixes.
The Dhoni mania hasn’t just engulfed the fans in India if South Africa pace legend Dale Steyn is to be believed.

Steyn, who was with Sunrisers Hyderabad’s backroom staff last year, has sat out from the ongoing season to take a break. However, he’s glued to his TV screen to watch IPL and especially when Dhoni is playing.
“Not only has it engulfed the IPL. That’s engulfed many South Africans and myself, to be honest with you, I don’t watch a lot of TV, but I seem to be glued to the seat when the IPL is on (and) my girlfriend says that my TV is broken, it’s stuck on cricket right now IPL and watching MS the other night. That’s exactly what we want to do,” Steyn said on JioCinema.
“You know, I’ve been on the receiving end of it before. I’ve watched it from a fan’s point of view, I loved it. I mean, I am a much better mood because of what I’ve just seen. So can we get more of MS Dhoni out in the middle? That would be great,” he added.
