During his 13-run knock against India in the second innings of the ongoing first Test in Chennai, Rahim broke Tamim Iqbal's record of 15,192 runs and took the No. 1 position.

Former Bangladeshi captain and wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim created history on Saturday (September 21) by becoming the leading run scorer for his country in international cricket. The 37-year-old right-handed batter, who made his international debut on May 26, 2005, during a Test match played against England at Lord’s, has 15,2025 runs to his name in 464 matches played so far across formats.

During his 13-run knock against India in the second innings of the ongoing first Test at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Rahim broke former opening batter Tamim Iqbal’s record of 15,192 runs for Bangladesh in 387 matches.

Former captain and legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is third on the list with 14,701 runs to his name in 446 matches.

Flop show vs India

In the ongoing Test against India at Chepauk, Rahim failed to fire with the bat in both innings. He was dismissed for 8 runs from 14 balls in the first innings by Jasprit Bumrah, and in the second innings, when his side needed 515 runs to chase down in the fourth innings, he got out after making 13 runs.

Senior Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin accounted for his dismissal on the fourth ball of the 34th over.

Rahim’s wicket was Ashwin’s third in the second inning of the ongoing match. With his third wicket, Ahswin has taken his tally of wickets to 519 in Test cricket, and it has helped him equal former West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh’s record of wickets in Tests. If Ashwin manages to take at least one more wicket in the match, then he will break Walsh’s record and become the eighth-leading wicket-taker in the five-day format of the game.

The three wickets on Saturday also helped Ashwin break Pat Cummins’ record of 175 wickets and become the second leading wicket-taker in World Test Championship history. The 38-year-old Indian star now has 177 wickets to his name in 36 matches played so far. Australia’s Nathan Lyon, who has 187 wickets to his name, is the leading wickettaker in WTC history.
