Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana was seen getting emotional and having tears in her eyes on Monday (October 14), during Pakistan’s national anthem ahead of their Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 match against New Zealand in Dubai. The 22-year-old Karachi-born cricketer had left Pakistani camp a few days back following her father’s demise but returned back to join the team on Monday for the must-win match against White Ferns.
However, before the start of the match, she failed to control her emotions and was seen having tears in her eyes. Several videos of Fatima in tears during Pakistan’s national anthem are going viral on the internet.

The match between New Zealand and Pakistan on Monday was a must-win for both teams to keep their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals alive, but Women in Green failed to get the better of the Sophie Devine-led side and went down by 54 runs.
After restricting New Zealand to 110 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs, Pakistan needed 111 runs to win the match, but despite captain Fatima’s 21-run knock, they could only manage to score 56 runs in 11.4 overs.
Amelia Kerr picked up three wickets for the New Zealand team, and two Pakistani batters were sent back to the pavilion by Eden Carson.
The defeat against New Zealand was Pakistan’s third straight loss in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, and with just two points from four matches, they finished fourth in Group A.
With Pakistan’s defeat, India’s campaign in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 also came to an end on Monday. India would have finished second in the points table and progressed to the semis had Pakistan defeated New Zealand in the match, but they failed to do so.
New Zealand is the second team after Australia to qualify for the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 from Group A. They finished the group stage with six points from four matches. On the other hand, Australia topped the table by winning all four matches.
In the semi-final, Australia will face the second-placed team of Group B, whereas New Zealand will be up against the table-toppers of Group B.
