'Pitch it in the Wicket and Let the Ball do the Talking', Says Arshdeep Singh After Career-best Figures Against USA Takes India Into Super 8

Team India punched their ticket in the Super 8 of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with a 7-wicket triumph over hosts USA at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday.

India limited the USA to 110 for the loss of 8 wickets as Arshdeep Singh starred with a four-wicket haul before Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten to reach his half-century and carry the men in blue over the line to secure progress in the ICC showpiece.

Arshdeep was presented the Player of the Match award for his career-best figures of four overs, four wickets for nine runs.

At the post-match presser, the left-arm pacer expressed his delight with his statement performance and touched upon the support he has received from the unit.

“Very very happy with the performance,” the seamer began.

“In the last two games, I gave away a little more runs, wasn’t happy with that. The team always showed belief in me and kept backing me, I had to deliver for them,” Arshdeep said.

Arshdeep started off with a bang as he became the first Indian bowler to scalp a wicket in the first ball of a T20 WC fixture with the dismissal of Shayan Jahangir, and doubled down on his tally with the sixth ball of the over as he sent Andries Gous back to the hut.

“The wicket is very conducive to fast bowlers and it’s helping us get some seam movement,” he said.

“The plan was simple, pitch it in the wicket and let the ball do the talking. Don’t give easy balls to score, our batsmen are also facing difficulties to score runs,” he revealed.

He completed his four-wicket haul with the dismissals of Nitish Kumar and Harmeet Singh in the latter part of the innings to complete his career-best figures.

“The plan was to hit the hard lengths. In conditions like this, you can use the wicket more,” he continued.

He spoke on the value of routines during big tournaments and expressed his eagerness to replicate the same in the upcoming fixtures too.

“When you are playing international cricket, you need to have some routines and the way you take care of your body counts. All the bowlers have done extremely well, looking forward to doing the same in the next leg as well,” the pacer concluded.
